Based on media reports dated September 12, 2023, Uttar Pradesh is making remarkable progress in delivering drinking water to every household through the Jal Jeevan Mission, surpassing other states in terms of speed. Bulandshahr stands at the forefront, while Bareilly holds the third position nationally.

  • August’s progress in the Jal Jeevan Mission has prompted the Centre to unveil rankings for 218 districts across the nation. These rankings, released by the Central Government’s Jal Shakti Ministry, are determined by advancements in constructing overhead tanks for residential water supply.
  • Within the framework of the Jal Jeevan Mission, Bulandshahr has emerged as the national leader in pipeline water distribution to households, with Bareilly securing the third position nationwide. Bulandshahr has not only rapidly erected overhead tanks but has also excelled in connecting homes to water sources, reaching nearly 98 percent of its target.
  • Meanwhile, 877 Gram panchayats in Bareilly are in the process of developing overhead tank projects, with 433 already having access to clean drinking water, leaving 1867 Gram panchayats yet to be covered.
  • Muzaffarnagar takes the fourth spot in the rankings, and Badaun, a district in the Bareilly division, claims the fifth position, achieving approximately 87 percent of its target.
  • Lakhimpur Kheri has secured the 42nd position in the national Jal Jeevan Mission rankings, ranking 25th within the state, with around 68 percent of its goal accomplished.
  • In total, Uttar Pradesh boasts 26 districts among the top 50 districts nationwide, with seven districts claiming spots in the top 10 across the country.
  • The top ten districts in the nation are as follows: Bulandshahr (Uttar Pradesh), South Salmara Mankachar (Assam), Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh), Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh), Badaun (Uttar Pradesh), Mungeli (Chhattisgarh), Tirupattur (Tamil Nadu), Chandoli (Uttar Pradesh), Kannauj (Uttar Pradesh), and Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh).
